Steps

  1. Lay out two slices

Two slices of bread side by side on a plate

Put two slices of bread side by side on a plate, like an open book.

Tip: pick two that match in size

  2. Spread the butter

A hand spreading butter on a slice with a knife

Scoop a little soft butter with a butter knife and spread it right out to the edges of one slice.

Tip: edges too, no dry bites

  3. Add your fillings

A hand dropping a tomato slice onto lettuce and cheese

Layer lettuce, then cheese, then tomato on the buttered slice. Keep the juicy tomato away from the bread.

Tip: tomato in the middle = no soggy bread

  4. Top it off

A hand pressing the top slice onto the stacked sandwich

Place the second slice on top and press down gently with your palm.

Tip: a gentle squish, not a smash

  5. Cut it in half

A sandwich cut diagonally into two triangles

Slice corner to corner to make two triangles. Hold the top with your claw hand while you cut.

Tip: triangles are easier to hold
